PS3 Patch Impressions

Okay ladies and gents. Patch 1.03 is live and I'm sure that by now, most of us, if not all of us, has had a chance to play DC Universe Online since then. The patch was pretty big for the most part weighing in at a healthy 3GB and you can definitely see why it was so hefty. I'll touch on some of the more common concerns people had in a list-type fashion for the purposes of easy reading:

User Interface Navigation and Font Size: Probably THE biggest complaint out of everything they fixed. Dare I say, even bigger than the game constantly crashing? Yeah, I'll take that leap. The UI has been greatly improved as far as intuitiveness of navigating through the menus along with legibility of the font. Somethings have stayed the same (like the item menu for example) while like the style closet and social/league menu was redone. Also, you can now access your stance as well as the different combos you have by pressing up on the d-pad. There is still room for improvement here because even though they've increased the font size, many still had to increase their UI size just to see some of the different menu options. We still believe that the font size could stand to be increased a little more and hopefully this is something that they'll continue to work on.

Game Stability: We've all been there. The constant freezing, sounds going in and out, etc, etc. Thanks to the new patch, this is almost a thing of the past. The UI had alot to do with the system instability and along with tweaking the navigation and legibility of the UI, they've also fixed it to where it doesn't hog the system resources as much, causing an upturn in play time and a decline in system hard-boots. There are still some instances when this happens, though it's at a more tolerable level. I think another thing that has to do with this as well is the server automatically logging you out if you are inactive for a certain period of time. I can't tell you how many times I've lagged or just plain ole' crashed because too many people were standing either in front of the police station or inside near the entrance not doing anything but cause load and spawn times to go up dramatically.

Character Colors: I was begging for this one. We can now rearrange or completely change our color palette now by accessing it through the style closet. Expect a bug or two of course. Sometimes when you make an actual change to your color palette and save, the change doesn't always register and it seems like certain parts of your outfit will change colors without you wanting it to.

Social Menu: Significantly Improved. This is most impart to the font size change and UI retooling. Getting your buddies in a group or league is alot less frustrating then it was before. It also seems as though they've added a ranking system for people in a league or legion. My biggest gripe about this aside from the font size, was the aggravation that was induced by trying to name your league. Most times this just would not work at all and lead me to wanting to put my fist through my TV. Now, this isn't really an issue anymore.

Those are just a few of the things that were a big issue to many, but keep in mind that with every patch comes new bugs for developers to iron out. For the most part, 1.03 did a good job of fixing alot of issues, but the one new bug that I've seen numerous times since the 20th is a glitch that causes player villains to become invisible and stay invisible while they either go into there movement mode or they are attacking you. Also, there seems to be six sets of Green Arrows and Black Canaries running around in front of Merci General Hospital (Mr. Freeze's area) .To be honest, I'm not even sure if this is a bug, because I haven't heard anyone else complain about it. But that's our two cents. I think the patch is a success considering everything that was taken care of in it. What do you guys think? Make sure to leave your thoughts or any new bugs you might've noticed since you installed the latest patch.
