Bio: Def-Force

Corbin Doyle was always gifted when it came to technology. In his childhood while other kids were playing video games on computers and consoles, Corbin was taking them apart to see how they work then tried to make them better. He had a passion for tinkering all his life, this passion led to him applying and being accepted to MIT, and upon graduating there being recruited by S.T.A.R. Labs. Because of his skills and knowledge Corbin was the problem solver at S.T.A.R. Labs. When a project hit a stonewall and looked like it was going to be abandoned Corbin would be assigned to the team to help them. Corbin was always successful in helping projects get back on track and completed, however he always wanted to be a project lead, he wanted to be the one to invent something instead of helping others finish their inventions.

Corbin was eventually contacted by a corporation called Techdyne, they offered him the chance that S.T.A.R. Labs always denied him. He was offered the position of lead designer for a project whose goal was to develop a power armor suit for law enforcement to help them when super powered villains were committing crimes. Code named Defender Force Armor, this suit was to be similar to ones currently in use in Metropolis, but needed to be more affordable for smaller police agencies on a tight budget. The project ran into several problems most of the early designs were either bulky, to time consuming to put on, to limited in function, or to slow to the users commands. After 3 years they finally had a working prototype, but Corbin felt it was still lacking in function, bottom line it was to slow to use and extremely limited in its use. Requesting a leave of absence to clear his head so he could come at the project from a new direction.

Even though he was away from the project, it was all Corbin could think about. He obsessed over the need to speed up the interface between the armor and its user, adding versatility to the armor so it could adapt to more then one situation. Corbin became so obsessed he began to work on a new design at his workshop at home. Instead of focusing on the armor though he began with the interface. After 6 months of near around the clock work he finally created the perfect interface. Calling it the Defender Armor Nanite Interface (D.A.N.I.) Corbin’s invention exceeded his original design plans. Injecting nanites into the armor’s user, they form a link between the user and the armor, as well as forming an artificial intelligence network that relayed all sensor information collected from the armor to the user.

Excited at having finally overcome one of the stonewalls Corbin filed his new prototype with Techdyne and looked forward to finally going back to work. This was not meant to be however, Corbin was fired with no reason and all materials relating to the Defender Force Armor was seized by Techdyne.

While being fired would cause some to give up and move on, Corbin became even more determined to get his vision of the Defender Force Armor to work. Taking freelance jobs from S.T.A.R. Labs and other companies Corbin spent all his free time and money into developing the armor to its full potential, as well as using the resources of his various employers. After 3 years, Corbin finally created a fully functioning prototype armor complete with a D.A.N.I. unit to interface with. With no testing team or testing facilities Corbin was left to test the armor himself.

Injecting the D.A.N.I. nanites into himself Corbin started out slowly, testing D.A.N.I.’s full capability. After a week of getting used to having a second voice in his head and testing all the new abilities he gained by having access to D.A.N.I. Corbin felt he was ready to test the armor.

Testing the armor went smoothly, the flight systems worked, the modular attachments worked, and they were easily switched out with other equipment as needed. The time finally came to actually put the armor on and thru D.A.N.I. link to the armor.

At first everything seemed to work fine, so fine that that Corbin decided to take the armor out for a flight test, which is where everything fell apart. D.A.N.I. started reporting an unauthorized remote access to the armor, which was impossible the only access points were D.A.N.I. and the user. He ordered D.A.N.I to run a diagnostic, when suddenly the flight system went offline and he crashed into his workshop. Corbin was stunned, near unconscious from the crash; even so he felt his body rise the armor and him were under someone else’s control. His arm rose and a Force Bolt fired from the gauntlet, destroying half of his workshop. Then the flight systems came back online and he quickly took flight once again, the sudden acceleration made him black out.

When he came to he was hovering over the smoldering ruins of his former employers S.T.A.R Labs, looking around at the devastation he noticed people were staring at him in terror, others were fleeing from him. His armored hand shot up and released several force bolts at the surrounding people.

Corbin realized his armor was still out of his control. He immediately tried accessing D.A.N.I. to shutdown the armor, but was overridden by whoever or whatever was behind the remote access intrusion. Corbin started looking around the area again, for anything that might help him, when he realized he wasn’t the only one people were running from. He saw two other power armor suits walking around destroying the complex. The other armors looked similar to his; in fact they looked like early designs of the Defender Force Armor.
One of the other armors aimed a shoulder cannon at the people nearest to him, but before he could fire a green electrical blast blew through its chest blowing wiring everywhere, the power armor was not a suit, but a robot. Corbin looked on to see where the blast came from. The Peacekeepers, a team of costumed heroes came charging in; they quickly took out the other power armored robot, and started to charge on to Corbin. Corbin’s armor began to fire all its available weapons at the charging heroes, Corbin started screaming that he was in the armor and tried to get the armor to respond to him, but he knew the heroes could not here him, and the armor would still not respond to his commands. One of the heroes called Dr. Vinci got ahead of the others fired a purple beam at Corbin and called for them to stop.

The purple beam enveloped Corbin encasing the armor in a sort of energy cocoon, which the armor’s weapons could not penetrate. The hero then walked forward to Corbin staring right at him, as if he could see Corbin inside the suit. Dr. Vinci advised Corbin he can hear his mind and read what had transpired. He knew that Corbin was not responsible for what happened. Corbin instructed The Peacekeepers on how to help deactivate the armor. Once the armor was deactivated, The Peacekeepers took Corbin to their headquarters, so he could investigate what happened to his armor and exactly where the other two robots came from.

Corbin first ran a diagnostic on D.A.N.I. to ensure that she was not the source of the corruption, then he started going thru the computer logs, there he found a wireless strange broadcast signal. The signal was not directed at the armor directly, it was just a general broadcast signal looking for a response, it was very close to D.A.N.I.’s own transmission frequency so close that D.A.N.I. detected the broadcast and attempted to see if was a device he forgot to calibrate properly to her new systems, this caught the notice of whoever was behind the broadcast and they then started looking for a way into D.A.N.I.’s system. They eventually found a way; they worked their way into her programming from Corbin’s main workshop computer. It was that link that allowed the armor to be taken over remotely. Whoever did this was extremely intelligent, Corbin never saw code written this well, let alone the ease of which they bypassed his firewalls, and easily adapted to the new tech in his suit, let alone able to lock down D.A.N.I.

With the how now known, Corbin then began investigating the robotic power armor suits. He found they were indeed based in his early Defender Force armor prototypes, he also found that they like his armor were remotely controlled by the same broadcast signal that co-opted D.A.N.I. and took control of the armor.
Using one of the robotic armor’s receivers Corbin was able to track where the signal controlling the armors was coming from. Corbin reported his findings to The Peacekeepers and with them left to find the origin of the signal. They arrived at a lone cabin in the woods outside of town. Scans of the area showed no one inside. They went inside the cabin and found one desk with a computer and monitor. Corbin had D.A.N.I. access the computer and found that it linked directly to Techdyne’s computer network. D.A.N.I. was able to access their network and find files of all of Techdyne’s recent dealing which included manufacturing robots using Corbin’s technology and selling them to various mercenary groups. Corbin ordered her to erase all materials concerning technology he developed and continue investigating who at Techdyne was responsible for this. D.A.N.I. complied erasing all materials Corbin created and began the search for who was responsible.

As D.A.N.I searched Corbin told the Peacekeepers what was she had discovered. They sent two of its members Celtic Bolt and Cyphon off to Techdyne’s offices to see if they could discover anything there.
D.A.N.I reported back to Corbin that she could not find any employees on file at Techdyne, that they all were laid off 2 months ago after their first version of the Defender Armor robots came online. The heroes sent to Techdyne’s offices reported back the building was deserted and looks like it has been so for months.
Confused Corbin had D.A.N.I probe further into their network for any clues as to exactly what was going on. Alarms began to blare inside the cabin; at the same time D.A.N.I. reported that there was something inside the computer system with her. Not taking any chances Corbin had her disconnect from the Techdyne network. The computer monitor in the cabin lit up. H3ll0 Fa7her, U haz finally f0und me. 50rry L but now iz no7 7he be5t 7ime f0r uz to 5peek, I wilL PM w1th y0u r33l s00n. D.A.N.I.E.L.

The Peacekeeper named Tremor warned everyone of a disturbance in the Earth beneath them a explosive chain reaction has started deep in the Earth below and it was heading in their direction. The Peacekeeper leader Overdrive ordered everyone out of the cabin immediately. Everyone rushed out of the cabin just as it exploded. With all evidence of the cabin was destroyed in the fire, everyone decided to meet up with Celtic Bolt and Cyphon at Techdyne’s offices. When they arrived at Techdyne’s main office they discovered it was also destroyed. The two heroes sent to investigate the building were safe; they reported the building just suddenly blew up in a massive fireball. With no other leads the Peacekeepers with Corbin all returned to their headquarters.

The Peacekeepers offered to help Corbin by allowing him to stay with them while his home and workshop was repaired. Corbin accepted glad to have a safe place to work on D.A.N.I, as well as his armor. He also appreciated the help in trying to figure out what exactly was happening, and what D.A.N.I.E.L was. Several weeks went by Corbin worked hard on repairing and upgrading the armor, and D.A.N.I. implementing new systems, to ensure that both would never be able to be compromised again. Feeling responsible for all the destruction his technology caused, and all the people hurt by it, Corbin decided he needed to take a more active role in protecting people. He needed to ensure his technology and armor would be used as a force of good in the world.

Having earned his trust and gratitude Corbin decided to approach The Peacekeepers for advice. They agreed that he needed to safeguard his technology, and offered him a place with them to do that, as well as help train him to be to be a super hero so he could use his technology and knowledge to help protect the powerless and keep the Peace. After months of training Corbin was ready, deciding to name his super hero identity after the armor he created, Corbin joined The Peacekeepers as Def-Force, The Techno Armored Defender.

The Defender Force Armor Mark IV works in two stages. Stage one is the Defender Armor Nanite Interface (D.A.N.I.). D.A.N.I. is a system of nanites that is inside Corbin and acts as the link between Corbin’s mind and the armor; it also acts as the armor’s computer system. D.A.N.I is a semi artificial intelligence system, it is able to formulate plans of action, and work independently of Corbin but is unable to command the suit, or carry out any plans without Corbin’s permission. D.A.N.I. is able to infiltrate or hack into other electronic and computer systems if Corbin is in physical contact with them by sending nanites out to become one with the system. Once the nanites are in place D.A.N.I. is able to wirelessly command or get information from whatever system she has taken over. Stage one is also provides access to Corbin’s database on his main computer system in his “workshop”. This database is constantly in sync with local, state, and federal computer systems. As well as some other classified systems he had: found: his way into. These systems allow him access to a large amount of information concerning heroes and villains he will come across, blueprints and maps for buildings, and other useful information one might need. When not in the Defender Force Armor the user is able to access the information visually through a dermal interface that the nanites create on the user’s skin. The Dermal Interface is also able to relay information about the users vitals, and act as a remote control for the Defender Force Armor with the user able to relay simple commands to the armor. Stage one of the armor is with Corbin at all times and he always has access to it.

Stage 2 of the Defender Force Armor is the armor suit. It works on a component base system. This system has two advantages first it allows the user to channel energy to whatever system he needs, to improve that systems abilities. Thus he could channel all energy to one system thus losing the other system abilities, or he could split the energy between multiple systems running them all at a lower power setting. The second advantage is that the user can easily switch out armaments when needed. The suit has room for a total of six attachments. Two that Corbin always has attached are the Defender Force Shield, and The Gauntlet Force Blast.

The Defender Force Shield is a one way energy shield capable of varying strength and size depending on how much energy is channeled into it. At its full setting it could resist a nuclear blast (this is untested), at its lowest it can withstand high caliber bullets and energy attacks as well as provide some protection to kinetic blows. The shield can be projected out to help protect other people; a projected shield has a lifespan of 10 minutes before more energy will be needed to recharge it. Both the projected shield and the shield on the suit have a limit and can be worn down over time if more power is not shunted to it.

The Gauntlet Force Blast is an offensive and defensive weapon. It discharges kinetic energy out of projector array in the palms of the armors gauntlets. This energy can be used to simply knock back targets about the size of an adult human at the lowest setting, or can be channeled into a high energy blast with enough force to tunnel through concrete or rip a hole through most metals.

Corbin has developed numerous other attachments for the suit the following are a sample of those attachments.

Nanite Healing Field, used for helping provide first aid and healing to people wounded.
Defender Stasis Field a containment field used to entrap and disable targets thus imprisoning them until they can be taken to a secure holding facility.

Sonic Resonator a non lethal riot control device the resonates a Sonic pulse the affect the inner ear of multiple targets that disables people by causing nausea, dizziness, and disorientation.

Along with the component devices there are four systems that are always attached to the suit. The Defender Mini Cannon, the Anti Gravity Jet powered flight system, Strength Amplifier and the Scan Analyzer.

The Defender Mini Cannon is one of the systems not attached the armors variable energy system. The Defender Mini Cannon is a small shoulder mounted cannon used to deliver different projectiles that the suits user has equipped at the time. Examples of the projectiles that can be used are various bullets, gas pellets, mini missiles and stun bags.

The Anti Gravity Jet powered Flight system is a two part system for high speed travel. The first part is the Anti Gravity and Inertial Damper contained in the belt attachment of the suit, it is what allows the user to fly, main propulsion comes from micro jets located in the boots of the suit. If the main propulsion is disabled the Gauntlet Force Blast can be used as a secondary propulsion system or as a booster to temporarily increase the top speed of the Flight system. The Flight system is tied into the variable energy system at full power the suit can achieve a speed of MACH 10.

The Strength Amplifier increases the user strength. It is tied into the variable energy system at no power it can fit 1000 lbs, at full power it can lift 100 tons.

The Scan Analyzer is tied directly to D.A.N.I. it is a system of scanners throughout the suit that is constantly gathering information of the area surrounding the suit, it can also be targeted to scan a certain area some distance away. The information scanners are then fed into an analyzing program that finds strengths and weaknesses of a target or a threat potential. D.A.N.I. then relays that information to the user and feeds the information back to the database at the “workshop” for storage if the information is needed later or further analysis is needed.

The suit itself is made of a classified metal chassis that is light in weight and high in strength. It can easily deflect low caliber fire arms, most normal melee weapons and is resistant to low levels of radiation. The suit is capable of hermetically sealing with an internal air supply of 4 hours. It also has an air filtration system that filters out toxins before air is brought into the suit for the user.
