Abaddon: Feeling pretty well, Jack.
Jack Ryder: The Incinerator… that’s a pretty…um, rare name.
The Incinerator: Yea well, I Incinerate.
Janus: He incinerates naming conventions.
Jack Ryder: Well guys, first, tell me what FOE is all about. I hear you aren’t the average Villain legion by any means.
Abaddon: The 3 of us got together and decided to form a group of mature, skilled, and seasoned players with similar backgrounds. Most of our members have families and real life responsibilities, and wanted to have similar play schedules and attitudes. FOE is like a family, a brotherhood. We went out and recruited some of the top notch players who rolled a villain on the first non-“Killing Joke” pvp server that came up. We might be “Villains”, but we have honor and are respectful when it is earned.
Janus: We balance our playtime between PVE and PVP. DCUO is the kind of game that rewards you for balancing your playtime among all the different types of content, be it Alerts and Raiding, PVP, or single player content. We're incredibly proud of the group we've assembled. When the "free trial" period ended, we lost just 1 member out of 30+. It just goes to show the kind of enthusiasm we all have for the game, and the DCU intellectual property. It's just a FUN game at the heart of it, but one rich with narrative opportunities.
Jack Ryder: Janus… is that JAN-us, or YAWN-us? Or...is the J silent?
Janus: Like I haven't heard that before. It's Jay-Nus
Jack: Ok, so anus with a J. How about I call you Silent J?
Janus: Dammit, Jack...It also depends where in the world you are when you...
Jack: Okay! So, The Incinerator, some random Joe wants to join your Legion. What would they need to do?
The Incinerator: All they need to do is go to our website ( www.dcuofoe.com ), create Application using the link right underneath the navigation bar on the right hand side. Fill out the application and then check back using the link provided in your email or on the thank you page. The founders will let you know if they have any additional questions for you or if your app has been accepted or denied.
Jack: Abaddon, what are some of FOE’s best accomplishments to date?
Abaddon: Call me Ab, Jack. Well, we have rocked PvP arenas so far. We tend not to bother with Legends for the most part, other than feat farming. But in Arenas, we shine, with full FOE groups. We only lost one 5v5 match ever, to someone using an exploit to capture the element. We lost a few 8v8 arenas, mostly to Meta Justice, but have beaten them several times as well. Meta Justice has earned FOE’s respect, even for a “Zero” Legion. We have a dedicated PvP arena night a week, and usually deck ourselves out in a theme for the night. One week, we donned Hoodies and briefs, while the next weekend we were decked out in formal attire; colored pink and white. Those are our fun nights, to laugh and have a good time as brothers at war. I enjoy the game the most on those nights.
Jack: And you, Incinerator? Janus?
The Incinerator: On the night we donned our Pink and White, we surrounded each of the Police Precincts in Metropolis. We stood up at the midtown PD station for at least 30 minutes before one of us even started to dip below half health. There were 7 of us taking on at least 30+ heroes, and we just stood our ground. Once we got bored with that station we hopped on over to the Chinatown PD station with similar success. Jack, we normally get what we want, and when we want heroes to suffer, they do...
Janus: The first time we cleared the Outer Caverns was fantastic. We had come close the previous attempt, but the Caverns had worn us down. (it was just a couple weeks into the life of DCUO and our gear wasn't quite there yet) We mustered only a couple attempts on the Bat Family then called it a night after a long raid. Our next time in, we cleared each Outer Caverns boss on a single attempt, and nabbed the Bat Family feat. We were all elated, (thinking it was going to take more than one try) and in that moment, all the hard work we put into building up FOE came to fruition. Now we look forward to all three Raids each week as a shot at new gear drops, and work toward our complete T2 sets.
Abaddon: We cleared both Khandaq and Outer caverns this week in just over 2 hours total on the same night, without even trying for the feats. As a whole, FOE is running 3 separate planned raid groups, 3 raids each. We are also running daytime raids for those on an earlier play schedule, and even a 4th Raid group for the lower geared members who can’t find a home in one of the 3 main raids, and for alts. Half our roster is full tier 1 gear and already working on tier 2. We are very strong.
Jack Ryder: Your motto - Veremini Ordinem - what's up with that?
Janus: It means "Respect the Order"...
Abaddon: It means "Fear the Order"...
The Incinerator: It means we incinerate our enemies.
Jack Ryder: You love some incinerating, don't you pal.
The Incinerator: I also love cake.
Jack Ryder: What kind of challenges have you found, in running a successful Legion?
Abaddon: Trying to meet everyone's needs. The most important thing to me is having fun, so I want to make sure everyone is enjoying the game. Sometimes it is tough when more people want to raid that we have spots for. Then you have to determine who goes based on gear and activity, and I hate not including everyone. But we have bumped the number of raids we run weekly up to try and accommodate those people.
Also, it is tough when you have to boot members for being immature, not following Legion guidelines, etc. We don't glitch, so anyone who abuses the game mechanics to gain an advantage in PvP, gets booted. We have easy to follow rules, but if you break them, we are strict. We try to run a tight ship.
Janus: Trying not to take things too seriously, but just seriously enough. DCUO is a pretty casual, and fun, game. Though we all put a lot of work each week into the Legion administration, we also want to play the game, just for fun, as Ab said. This isn't WOW, despite how some people playing want it to be. There's no need to over-analyze strategy, or play with one specific load out for a class, or play in only one "acceptable" manner. We also have a pretty mature group, so for the most part I expect folks to act their age, and use their common sense. Of course, sometimes they need a nudge in the right direction. All FOE's founders all have a strong inherent sense of order, so it's a challenge to avoid over managing.
Oh, and balancing our membership roster. After the first couple weeks, we realized that our initially balanced roster wasn't so balanced. Our tanks were the most active, and our controllers the least. So we had some initial pains, followed by a successful recruitment drive.
I will say - running FOE has been a lot easier with Ab and TI at my side. We are quick to address issues of concern (ours and our members) and are generally on the same wavelength about administrative issues. I'm really fortunate to have partnered up with these guys.
The Incinerator: Finding the right people that share your same ideals, play schedule, and are fun to play with. You want to find the guy that not only has the skills to be a great all around player (both PvE and PvP) but also be a guy you could go out with and have a few beers after you get done playing. All goes back to the brotherhood we try to create.
Jack Ryder: Well it sounds like you guys really aren't your average villain Legion. I’d wish you good luck, but I do not think you guys need it. The Heroes on No Man’s Land may, however. This is Jack Ryder signing off.
The Incinerator: Yea well, I Incinerate.
Janus: He incinerates naming conventions.

Was a honor running with you guys at the start. Learned alot about tanking and other stuff from you guys. Sucks at that time none of you was late nighters like I was. Glad to have once been a member and to be on the same server as FOE. Much respect to yall
ReplyDelete"Ok, so anus with a J. How about I call you Silent J" ----Gotta give respect to Shogun as he was the one who came up with this (I believe) :)
ReplyDelete--Arctic Arrow
I don't have a ton of experience with FOE, but I've pvped against two of them (open world), Sledge and Frack. That was a Hell of a battle. We almost took you two, but when we stopped fighting my buddy and I started doing quests and they let us do our thing. Pretty classy. I'm alright with FOE.
ReplyDeleteAbaddon, is one of the most self righteous pricks I have ever encountered.
ReplyDeleteYay... an anonymous fan! Legacy? Have only booted a few ppl soo... not many options ;)
ReplyDeleteAt least balls up and post your name.

“Ordinary morality is only for ordinary people.”
ReplyDeleteGlad to see FoE here at TDP.
-Eliphaz
I lucked out by finding FoE right away after launch. Ab, "J"anus, and Sir Burns-Alot, put in a lot of hard work keeping FOE one of the most feared and respected legions on No Mans Land. Keep up the good work guys.
ReplyDeleteMost feared and respected. It sounds like you guys are trying to be like that Destruction Queen legion. They say they are the most feared and respected. Honestly no Legion on NML has that title.
ReplyDeleteI love the hero endorsement. Forum flamers of a feather stick together.
ReplyDeleteAs do ppl who hide behind anonymous titles it seems
ReplyDelete:)

FOE are honorable villains. I've have fought them a few time and they put up one hell of a fight. Good job guys.
