Introducing: The DCUO Insiders
Recently we've had the pleasure of making a few acquaintances with people lucky enough to have Closed Beta access. We're happy to announce that they've agreed to provide Feedback, Impressions and answer YOUR questions about the DCUO Beta! There identities are a closely guarded secret so please don't ask any specific questions about their characters or their real names. We should be releasing the first of the their many impressions pretty soon.
Leave your questions for the Insiders in the comments section and they'll answer them as soon as they're able.
Please be considerate and allow other s to ask questions as well.

My question: so many people have said character creation isn't detailed enough? what did you think?
ReplyDeletehere's my question. how does combat feel? is it a button-mashing free-for-all or is some skill involved?
ReplyDeleteOkay, I have played the game and to anwer your questions here the character creation isn't at all detailed so far. You choose if your a male or female, of course, and then you'll have to choose your super powers (fire, telekinesis or ice) then you'll choose fighting style (bow, martial arts, dual swords and a few other i can't remember), then your movements (acrobatics, flight or speed) and finally you choose your mentor of either superman, wonder woman and bat man. Whomever you choose depends how your going to experience it. The combat is a button mashing but you also need some skill because button mashing doesn't always work because you'll have to use your powers in tough situations. Also the range on your weapons is a bit absurd. I could be standing idk 5 yards away from an enemy or destructible object and hit it.
ReplyDeleteI'll keep up with this website to continue answering questions for you all.
sweet. are you one of the Insiders? describe what you mean by absurd on the weapon range. is it too far? what if i'm 50 feet away and i have a sword? can do attack someone who's floating up in the air?
ReplyDeleteyes i am. I mean like my swords aren't even making contact with the enemy or objects and the game counts it as a hit. You can't do 50 ft that is too far lol just like a few feet you'll notice it after a while. Yes you can attack someone in the air and do attacks in the air as well. What i didn't like about flying is when i glided on the surface of the water it didn't make a smooth swoosh sound or what you expect but a continous ticking sound in which disappointed me. O yea about the characterization thing i am ASSUMING not sure but when you create your own character you get your own costume and how the armor will look on you. So i am saying you get your unique costume compared to everyone elses. No one person or costume looks alike.
ReplyDeleteso if my character is a samurai and i can't jump super high, how do i hit someone floating 50 feet in the air? i'm a little confused.
ReplyDeletewell i don't know how you get a samurai but depending on your movements in which flight would be the easiest, acrobatics you can jump super high and super speed well good luck. They will be difficult but that is why you are given attack options and powers. You can use your powers to attack the enemies as well as your weapons unless your using martial arts. Also their aren't many flying enemies and when their are they will have a NPC super hero to help you. Like when i fought the scarecrow he unleashes a bunch of bats and bat girl took care of them. the only flying enemy i have seen so far.
ReplyDeleteo yea i forgot to mention that i am using the beta on the pc
ReplyDeleteForgetting about the fact that your character might not ACTUALLY make contact when attacking, how does combat feel? How's the atmosphere and immersion? Do you "feel" like a superhero?
ReplyDeleteI understand now (and thanks for taking the time to answer Questions for us) but what about if we're on PVP? If we make a grounded character are we screwed if someone's flying and shooting energy blasts at us?
ReplyDeletewell your powers should be able to attack flying players. Also super speed will make it difficult for someone to hit you and acrobatics well your like the hulk you jump everywhere very high and run pretty fast. So everything is pretty evened out. The energy powers do have a range and if you get out of the range you won't get hit. It won't follow you for a time period.
ReplyDeleteok cool. so how about the environments, how do they look? how about the graphics?
ReplyDeleteo right sorry TDak.
ReplyDeleteyea my character is not making contact with the object and takes a hit.
The combat feel is very simple and the atmosphere to me makes me feel like i need to hero up. Yes you do feel like a super hero because their are a lot of missions where you have to help the people, fend of the enemies while to helping the police and civilians and fight the bad guys.
the graphics are great but you'll need like hd to take in the full effects
ReplyDeletethe environment doesn't look that great everything looks like it was just put there and doesn't look realist like some things look like a sticker or they just drew it in. Don't get me wrong the graphics are pretty great for my opinion. Also the sensitivity is pretty high on the camera so i suggest to lower it a little bit.
This might be too much for a comment here, but would it be possible to get a list of powers with the short description provided in game? I'm mostly interested in Mental but would greatly appreciate any that beta testers would be willing to provide.
ReplyDeletehave you been able to try and PVP? that'll really tell us how balanced the game is.
ReplyDeletewhat's the best element in the game? in your opinion is it worth 15 bucks a month?
ReplyDeleteWell i haven't used anything other then the fire powers.
ReplyDeleteI have not tried PVP yet but i will try today haven't had much time to play recently
well the best element i would say that your able to be a super hero compared to most games were you fight the villian and save some civilians where in this one it is a bit better.
Well the truth is i don't pay for online gaming so i couldn't really tell you if it is worth it or not. I will have to get back to you on that Henson.
Ok, if you've been playing fire, can you give the list of fire powers? A list of iconic powers would also be super awesome.
ReplyDeletewhat about mundane heroic missions like bank robberies and saving civilians of apartment fires. are they in?
ReplyDeleteLet me first just saw thanks for the videos as I have been watching them for some time now. I would have to disagree with you though on your comment of superspeed being screwed when going against a flyer. As you can see in this video once their power level are increased they are able to jump quite nicely..lol
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTdAgKPS2tM&feature=player_embedded
well giving lists of powers would take to much of a time so i'll let you find that one out on your own
ReplyDeletei just logged on and the game was updated so their are new powers i could use and skills such as the nature and so on that i didn't no list recently
i have not seen any kind of those missions yet but their are missions where you have to save civilians from brainiac, cure them from scarecrows gas, and from hallucination from the gas as well
i know they could jump but they can't stay up in the air and you only get one chance at the jump.
ReplyDeletealso their is an energy bar so their is no need to worry about them just being in the air and shooting at you
Been dying to know... can speedsters run on water?
ReplyDeleteYes, speedsters can run on water.
ReplyDeleteYESSS! What I would give to see a video of that...
ReplyDeleteDo you think combat is balanced enough for PVP to succeed?
ReplyDeleteyea they are
ReplyDeletethe powers are limited so you can only use them for only a few times and the only way to recharge is doing melee
so if your a flyer your going to have to land and fight hand to hand because you can't continously use your fire power
if you have a gun or bow they have a range and you'll have to be pretty close but you'll be close enough for a close combat fighter to get close enough
i won't be able to ask your questions tomorrow so if you have any questions ask them on the beta impression part 1 so i can get back to you
ReplyDeletedo you know if anyones in the ps3 beta?
ReplyDeleteSpeedsters can run on water and so can Acrobats. I assume they did that for balance. Flight obviously you can fly over the water. All movement abilities have their own list of abilties that you can unlock. The powersets that will be in the game for launch are Ice, Fire, Mental, Sorcery, Nature, and Gadgets. Each powerset has a bunch of abilities you can unlock as you progress. Iconic powers are a separate list that you can unlock as well. Everyone regardless of weapon type will have both melee and ranged attacks. Doing combos of both will recharge your power pool so you can use more abilities other than combos. So say you are ranged. You can do ranged combos and refill your power bar or you can melee. Everyone also gets abilities to even the fight. So say you are an acrobat and you are fighting someone that flies in PvP. You will have abilities you can use either through combos or through your powerset to knock them out of the air. While in combat all movement is reduced to make it more even. That doesn't mean that you can't get away though by using the environment to your advantage. The range of ranged abilities appears to be consistant regardless of weapon type or powerset to further balance PvP. So far the game is great and they said they would be making an announcement soon about the PS3 beta invites. Everyone is supposed to be able to get in by the 30th if you pre-ordered and sent them your receipt by the 15th of this month. If you didn't get it in on time then you will have to wait till near the end of beta and they will do a true open beta that people can get access to before the game launches.
ReplyDeleteIs there anything you think of that needs changing or something they could add to make the game better?
