Action Interview: The Others

Who could have known being an investigative reporter would be THIS dangerous? Matt Folly knew full well to expect things like threats via email or phone, or to even have threats of slander from the lawyers of people who were the subjects of his investigative reports--but this was a completely different matter entirely. He felt a lump in his throat build as the man directly in front of him pointed a pistol directly at his face. He couldn't see the man's face clearly in the darkness, but he could hear him just fine. "Move, newspaper boy--now!" It had all been a setup. He had been under the impression he was meeting with a mob informant working for Carmine Falcone, but it was obvious now that the tables had been turned on him. The meeting place had been a telephone booth not far from "The Slums", and as he entered to place a call to the number he had been given, two thugs in trench-coats swarmed the booth from a car not far away and began to usher him violently into the backseat of the vehicle.

Suggestion: Character Bio

Recently a few of our writers suggested Character Bios in DCUO. To be more specific, users should have a space to write a short Character Bio that others can view if they use the Player Search that will certainly be an option in-game. With the popularity of back-stories and other origin material from people who have crafted their characters over time, this would certainly be a welcome element that adds some depth to DCUO.

Here's to hoping its something that the developers will seriously consider adding in bright future of this highly anticipated game.

PS3 Beta to begin soon

The DCUO Official Facebook page news that all of the PC Beta keys have been given out should be good news to our Console Brethren. This means that the PS3 Beta cannot be far off. Shortly there will be a time where all the hardcore fans of DCUO will have the pleasure of actually PLAYING this game that we've all followed so intently for so long. Our sincere wish is that while we'll certainly get in and enjoy ourselves, people keep in mind that the foremost purpose of the beta is to provide feedback that will be helpful in eliminating any exploits and bugs in the game before launch. Let's all keep our eyes peeled for these elements so that DCUO can be the best game that it can be.

Interview: Black Falcon

Lesley Scaeffer: "Some have called Wayne Enterprises the most powerful corporation in the world. But a few people with knowledge of WE's inner workings, say much like the powerful everywhere, this multi-national conglomerate has been thoroughly corrupted by its ability to do whatever it wants to. We spoke to several ex-employees, one of which is authoring the book, Abuses of Power: Does Wayne Enterprises have too much Influence? next up, we delve into some of the behaviors behind one of the most successful companies in the world."

Interview: Ringmaster

This is Rick Carter with SuperHeroHype Magazine. After having the opportunity to interview the super-heroine known as the Ringmaster I came away seriously impressed. Let's go past the surface: She's obviously a uber-hottie  (made even hotter by the fact that she acts like she doesn't know it) but she's also so much more. She's well-spoken, confident, a bit of a hard-ass and very, very intelligent--and actually pretty kind after she lets her guard down. She could have easily come across as a self-absorbed airhead like The Black Falcon (did you see that 60 Minutes Interview? My Gosh--can anybody say Miss South Carolina?) but she wasn't even close. Read on for the interview in its entirety below.

Sources: The Game Feels Alive!

Actually the entire quote was: "Something I still haven't gotten tired of yet is just looking out over the cities. Whethter it's standing on a building or flying through the skies, I just love how it all seems to real. I love looking down and seeing cars stopping at lights, and not just three or four cars either, hundreds. It feels alive."

User Interview: Sapphire Fox of the Wild Knights

Not so long ago we sat down with the real brains behind the character Sapphire Fox for a look at DCUO. Find out what three elements are paramount in DCUO, why comics play such a big role to DCUO fans and why Sapphire Fox is gonna take down Poison Ivy.

Video: Mystic Heroes

Our next peek into the Closed Beta shows a mystic hero in action as he uses his arcane energies to blast his way out of Braniac's ship. Mystic Energy Bolts FTW!

More Speedster Videos

Here's another treat for the potential speedsters out there. This clip shows our favorite had-too-much-caffeine heroes in all their rapid-fire glory.

Videos: The Villainous Perspective

Here are some videos from the bad-guy perspective from the Closed Beta. Click the link below for a glimpse into how they live on the dark side.

The Daily Planet Pledge

Our blog has no heroic or villainous associations . It's our intent to remain neutral and simply REPORT the news and other events from inside DCUO. In a nutshell, many of us were really disappointed that "news stories" inside DCUO won't be available for everyone in the game to see. We feel like there needs to be a way to highlight events, instances and focus on who's being a GREAT hero or villain--so we're gonna do it. Stop a bank robbery in Gotham? Send it to us so we can write it up as a news story. Or recreate it in short story form from your character's perspective! we also want to show another side to the characters (and the people that play them) by doing interviews. We know people are ALWAYS interested in gossip as well...so any information from inside superhero/villain teams about new members, your new nemesis, who's at odds, who got OWNED and other stories are certainly welcome.

Monthly Updates in DCUO

Many of us speculated about the amount of regular updates and new content we would get in DCUO. Some felt than a 14.99 price tag was steep and the amount of new content had to be significant to justify it. In a recent ingterview http://tinyurl.com/37y8bgf Jens Anderson alleviated the concerns of many by confirming monthly updates for the title. That's right, the minds over at SOE are working hard for our 15 bucks a month. In addition to content updates, there will be a new "Focus" character every month, new locations like Kandor and the Phantom Zone. Finally, we'll also get expansions that will let us leave earth and explore the solar system and the galaxy.

Secret Identities will NOT be available at launch

In a recent interview http://tinyurl.com/37y8bgf DCUO producer Jens Anderson confirmed that the in-game element of Secret IDs will not be available at launch. While this is a little bit of a letdown, there are core gameplay issues that are just MORE important and we're glad the minds behind DCUO have their priorites in order. The real beauty of the game is that as Jens said in the interview "Launch isn't the end, it's the beginning." Let's be honest, fresh quality content is going to make or break this game. Constant updates, Game Balancing, anti-cheating, the addition of new powers, abilities, skills, environments and character customization options are the things that will truly keep people coming back for more. If these things lag behind and the game is allowed to grow stale? We'll all remember DCUO as a title that could have been great.

So in a nutshell, Secret IDs are coming, we'll all get to change to our Hero persona in a phone booth soon enough.

Interview: Wolf Knight of the Wild Knights

"Computer, begin recording. For the record my name is Elliot Walker and I conducted this debriefing with operative eight on March 3rd, 2010 on behalf of The Walker Group. My access code is 1-7-6-Delta-Epsilon-Alpha. My final assessment is: He seems a little stand-offish, he may be starting to distrust us--we may need to tighten the surveillance a bit."

DCUO Graphics reaching new heights

A friend and I were talking not so long ago about the difference between our first look at DCUO at E3 a couple years ago, and the way it looks now. Talk about night and day! The initial gameplay graphics were pedestrian at best--and I am NOT a graphics whore. I've always been a gameplay guy that cared more about how a game played versus what it looked like. Solid graphics have always been good enough for me.

But to say we're not impressed with the polish and and overall improvement they've done with the graphics would be a lie. the game...looks GREAT. When the gameplay and look of a game are both first rate, coupled with a revolutionary concept, you begin to consider if this game is destined for greatness. We'll all find out soon enough. DCUO could change the MMO genre as we know it.

More Movement Types?

The beauty of DCUO will be the vast amount of new content we'll see on a regular basis. The great thing about playign a subscription-based MMO is that new content is ASSURED. On that note, we've decided to do our latest article on new movement types that we'd like to see in the future. We're more than satisfied with the current movement types being offered--we know that not everything can be in the game at launch, but perhaps these are some great elements we can see after batches of our lovely new content begins to flow.

Interview: High Score

In the latest issue of SuperHeroHype Magazine, host Emily Scott sits down with the enigmatic High Score of Metropolis fame. A heroine who has amassed an almost cult-like following because of her unique looks and penchant for deejaying the party scene until the wee hours of the morning. We contacted her by phone and found out what she thinks about being a Role Model, why she likes the club scene and why she's NOT a threat to National Security.

New DCUO Gameplay Video

We were lucky enough to find this gem of a gameplay video with some large group combat between some PCs, the JLA and Doomsday, in Smallville. Doesn't the Kent Farm look sweet? Lex also makes an appearance in the 10 minute clip. ENJOY.

Tremor makes the Beta!

Here's Tremor in-game. Lucky Devil!

The Peacekeepers have OFFICIALLY touched down in Metropolis! One of their founders, Tremor has been spotted in the beta and from his short quote, it seems that many people's worries about the game are unfounded. Here's what he had to say: "I have to apologize.  Can't believe I had my doubts, but you all made me eat my words. This is an amazing game."

Suggestion: Sidekick

While we've heard alot about NPCs mentoring our characters, one thing we shouldn't underestimate is the ability to bring new players into the game and get them up to speed quickly. Imagine a system where a newer or lower level characters could request to "sidekick" with higher level or more prominent players within DCUO. Any in-game tutorial would pale in comparison to a true mentor system where other users could take players under their wings and show them the ropes in DCUO--and for their service to their follow DCUO player? a bit of bonus XP perhaps? Only time will tell.

Our most recent interview was with Blitzfreeze of the group Chaotic Evil. Read on for some of his views on why he chose a Villain, why he prefers PC and what the big deal about End Game Content is.

No Sniping in DCUO?

During the most recent "Inside The Studio" it was revealed that there would not be "sniping" in DCUO. This seems a bit odd to us, but if it would unbalance the game we understand. It just seems like there would be little difference between a Hero or Villain with a rifle and a superhero with energy projection powers. Is DCUO going to to a strictly close-combat/melee game?

We hope not. There are many different aspects to combat in the superhero genre that don't take place within five feet, and we hope DCUO represents these as well. This puts a little damper on being able to launch surprise or ambush attacks--which we sincerely hope are a part of gameplay, especially in PVP.

Mundane Heroic Encounters

One has to wonder if we'll have the opportunity to perform mundane heroic missions like thwarting the standard bank robbery or saving civilians from an apartment fire even if we don't accept missions. The game would have much more of an "organic" feel if during our exploration of DCUO's vast environments we have the ability to help civilians in all manner of distress and prevent crime in even its smaller forms.

Suggestion: Secret Identities

We know we're not the only ones hoping that Secret IDs are more dynamic then just a mode where we can put our character before we log off. While we've heard plenty of great suggestions that include being able to gain XP for customization doing "jobs", asking SOE to have something like ready by launch is asking a bit much. Jens and Chris certainly hinted at something on a past episode, but no one knows for sure what they have up their sleeves. Could we see:

User Interview: Deacon of the Coalition

Why was Deacon the character you chose to represent you in DCUO?

Deacon is actually a character that I created way back when in the 2nd or 3rd grade. Throughout the years. I’ve always wanted to see him in some type of game and now I’m basically a hair away from having something that I’ve always wanted to come true.
